There are many reasons as to why you would want to outsource part of your workload to others.

It could be that you find that mundane day-to-day activities are taking up too much of your time, and you want to free up this time to work on other things (and at the same time you want those daily activities done), or that you do not have the expertise to carry out certain tasks, and the list goes on.

Outsourcing a piece of work may be as easy as it sounds, but you still need to be careful nonetheless on choosing that freelancer to perform the tasks for you.

In this post, I’m going to share with you 5 outsourcing tips that will save you from all the frustration that may receive from these freelancers:

1. Be Extremely Clear On What’s Required

You do not want your freelancer to make any assumptions on what exactly you require, so, it is extremely important that you list down each and every step that’s required of the freelancer to get the job done (this can also prevent any misunderstandings between the freelancer and you).

You may also want to take note to write your instructions down in plain, simple English. Do not use bombastic words, because some of these freelancers may be from countries such as India, the Middle East, or countries such as the Philippines, where English is not their first language.

2. Check Out The Freelancer’s Portfolio Prior To Engaging Him/Her

Before you engage a particular freelancer, make sure you request for his/her portfolio (so that you can check out previous projects he/she has done). From there, you can judge the quality of his/her work and determine whether or not you want to engage him/her.

You may also want to check out comments about the particular freelancer by checking out feedbacks about him/her that are given by others (who have engaged his/her services previously).

3. Engage More Than One Freelancer

When you have a big piece of job, do not give them all to 1 freelancer – Say for example, you need someone to write 100 articles for you on a certain topic. Do not engage just 1 freelancer to write all 100 articles for you, rather, engage 2, 3 or even 4 freelancers to work on the task for you (for example, if you engage 4 freelancers, you can ask each freelancer to write 25 articles for you).

That way, you can see which freelancer does a better job (and you can engage him/her for other tasks that you have in future).

4. Do Not Pay Your Freelancer At Once

When it comes to paying your freelancer, do not pay him/her at once. What I would recommend is that you pay him/her when 50% of the work is done (and you’re satisfied with it), and the remaining 50% when he/she has completed the task.

5. Consider Giving Your Freelancer Some Monetary Incentives

If your freelancer has done an excellent job for you, you may want to consider paying him/her a little extra money (on top of the agreed price) for the effort he/she has put in.

By giving him/her that little incentive, he/she will put in even more effort for any tasks that you have for him/her in future, and you’ll have even more quality work – It’s definitely a win-win situation for both you and your freelancer.
