Here’s a good question from Sweet Pinki with an even better answer, enjoy:

He made a statement recently that the tax concessions to American companies would be withdrawn if they continue to outsource. I think rather than outsourcing to India and China , the real concern America should have is various subsidiaries and JVs they have formed in other countries to save cost, e.g I know GM ( India ) has the lowest cost to develop new car. How Obama can forget natural law of market force – Any buying would happen where it is cheapest. What are your views ?

Answer: President Obama is reacting merely politically to the rising unemployment problem in the US. The true reason for unemployment as well as outsourcing is the inability of the common American employee to deliver value for money. Making outsourcing synthetically costlier will further depress the American economy since an available avenue of value for money is also being made cost-ineffective.

Are they feeling that costs are being reduced by outsourcing to a cheaper place or feel that they are losing their jobs and their quality of life in their respective countries ? It would be interesting to hear opinions from different people across the globe.

Answer: i have worked with technical teams in many locations over the years including significant interaction for > 6 years with teams from India. generally i find Indian team members to be well educated and very literal, low on the creative side in many cases. there are certain advantages if there is a lot of structure and documentation but as soon as you have one issue you have lost a day. for global business it is a reasonable fit for support. over the last few years India based resources are becoming much more expensive and i believe will soon be over priced should the trend continue. we pay very fair wages to our team members, have direct contact, incentives, etc., yet the typical employment duration is < 1year. it is very difficult to have a stable and productive team in those conditions. my sense is with the communication gap, overhead caused from detail documenting, turn-over due to over-heated economy, i think we will be seeing more work shifting back to the US and to other emerging technology centers.

I thought I’d post this question from mohammed a since a lot of people seem to be asking it lately:

Here’s the topic:In his film, Roger and Me, Michael Moore addresses the issue of big businesses relocating to countries where their products can be mass produced at a cheaper cost due in large part to inexpensive labour. According to Naomi Klein, the reason corporations outsource is so that they can save money which they, in turn, funnel into creating and maintaining a brand. However, Klein stresses that there is a heavy price to be paid, as workers are often injured, overworked, and exploited in these sweat shops. Sameena Ahmad, on the other hand, claims that the workers lives are improved and that they are grateful for the employment opportunity. What are the advantages or disadvantages of relocating big businesses to third world countries? In the end, do these countries (its people, economy) benefit or suffer from outsourceSo the obvious answer here is to say outsourcing is bad and work with that. I thought it would be more interesting if I choose to defend outsourcing and say it is mostly beneficial. This is for a 6 paged university essay. I have tired writing a thesis but my prof said it was too broad. Here what I sent her:Despite all the negative beliefs about how outsourcing harms the economy, the benefits that have been generated are tremendously crucial to our civilization.Like I said before she thought it was too broad. Any ideas for a better thesis? Thanks a lot,

Answer: You need to give your reader a simple explanation of what they’re about to read. So you want to give a couple examples of WHY you believe what you are saying is true in your thesis “This is how this is, because this, this and this.” Then when you actually write it, you want to explain each of those things further. Then when you wrap it up, you state your thesis again in a different manner. I’m assuming that’s what she wants.I think your teacher is a little too simple-minded (like a lot of people) so she didn’t like the big words, haha.

Answer: I don’t think it’s too hectic. Sure, it sounds like it will challenge you, but based on the information you’ve given, I really do think you should go for it. It’s a creative, imaginative and fun sounding career.I can only think if it’s fear of it being outdated in the USA by the time you’ve finished studying making you hesitate then study more in your own time to keep up to date? In the end, every course you do risks being out of date by the end of it, hence the pressure tutors give to make us study in our own time.Hope this helps you decide what to do!

Answer: No Motion capture will not replace key fame animation.1. It is way too expensive for every game or film developer to use2. Even if a studio has the means to do all their animation in a motion capture studio, many just prefer key frame animation anyway3. Motion capture animation still requires you to have good animation skills to edit and fix motion capture data.As long as you have good animation principals, you can adapt to any new software tools. Just concentrate on being a great animator, and do continue to learn new software tools on your own after graduation.About the outsourcing…maybe. It is depressing to think about. To tell the truth, I have been looking for a job in this industry for over a year (graduated in 2010) and only had 1 interview and one test sent to me. Neither resulted in a job. I am beginning to loose hope finding a decent studio job as an animator, but since I love animation I will continue to work on my own projects paid or not. If you are looking for an in demand field, you may have to learn a different skill outside of the animation industry. Sorry for the overall negativity.

Many of you like the questions and answers on this blog. I just found another one from ‘Noname’ who asks

Capitalism depends on competition and can create a high-stress environment. In such an environment, men thrive, but women aren’t built for such stress… it is in women’s nature to be caring and not as competitive… so setting up a society around competition can be concievably negative for women… what do you think?

Answer: Social psychology research supports your point that there are differences in some predispositions between men and women in things such as social intelligence. Cross cultural psychology suggests that women in any culture tend to be more collectivistic (on the whole, yes there are plenty of exceptions) than men. I also resonate with what Anna says, which is there is really nothing in the job market that women can’t do with as much skill as a man. That said, I’m not sure that competition in capitalism would cause stress in women. In most capitalist situations, there is nothing preventing you from competing as a team, which if women are predisposed towards caring as you suggest, would give women an advantage in that groups are more effective at complex tasks than individuals. The next question is then, why are women stressed out and also not as “successful” as men? The answer is that the market that women are competing in is not really a free market where all participants start out equally and are subject to the same rules. Another source of stress is the fact that in this market system, many women are thrown into a situation in which the market does not compensate them for their contribution… it’s called “motherhood”. Despite all the blither about how it’s “their choice” and how they find it rewarding, society also places constraints on what women can do with the children and ignores the enormous investment they require. On top of this indignity, child rearing is still disproportionately done by women, even when outsourcing options are available through child care. All of society benefits from a well raised child (all you zero population growth hysterics: no children means no taxes, no labor, no social security and no new innovation), but the costs of raising children are born primarily by parents. The benefits are not captured by the parents as much as society at large. Of the parents, the burden again is primarily on the women. This was a little off tangent from what maybe you were intending. If women are collectivists, they may be disadvantaged in individual competition in an ideal capitalist market. They may however be advantaged if they are allowed to cooperate with others against shared adversaries. The stress all depends on whether they are allowed to cooperate with some one else or not, not whether there is competition.

Answer: Tremendous investment in IT. Most people in management don’t realize it. To have good virtual network, IT infrastructure is a must. Anything less is a disaster.. To prepare as an individual.. well, know as much about IT as possible I guess (a stint in IT work won’t be too bad. Plus, most of IT work as people understood it is low-skill labor work anyway….XR

Also I have a lot of ideas but I don’t know which one would be important enough to put in the paper. How can I organize and mind map all of this information that I have?

Answer: How about if you read this article and develop your thesis from there:http://www.cnn.com/2006/EDUCATION/09/28/education.india.reut/index.html?section=cnn_latest

The past presidents said that we would get new and better jobs. i don’t see it anywhere. where i live, there used to be like 7 factories. they ALL shut down and went to mexico or china. My mom is losing her house because her job went to mexico. she didn’t gain anything. she lost her car a long time ago too. i don’t see any economic gain from outsourcing jobs. do you?

Answer: Here’s a short video clip about trade deals and what was known even before they became obvious to Americans. Listen to what is said and realize that we are not done with seeing more fallout from globalism.http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=Rkgx1C_S6ls&feature=relatedThe idea that Clinton was a great president is so hilarious. He is still pushing for the end of the American middle class with his Clinton Global Initiative and Obama is on board 100%.What gets fools lapping up this garbage is the notion that we are helping other countries when they get the jobs that are outsourced to them. Meanwhile, like it is mentioned in the video, the workers are working for slave wages in an unhealthy environment with no worker safety or environmental regulations. And the cheap crap that is sent to America is just that, CHEAP CRAP! We’ve seen incidents in the news of toys from China with toxic lead paint and dog treats that kill peoples dogs because it contains contaminants. Also, another of your answers claims that now we have better jobs which require an education. This is more empty propaganda hype which doesn’t match the number of jobs lost to the number of jobs available. Only a tiny fraction of those graduating will obtain those jobs but as long as the school industry can capitalize on your ignorance and it promotes globalism we will continue to hear this empty hype.

I thought it was a good one so I wanted to post an answer here. The question comes from ‘FizzyBubbler is Back!’:

One way or another, American companies have to cut corners to stay competitive with overseas counterparts. If you don’t want the jobs going overseas, then have the overseas people come to the US illegally and pay them squat. The only other option is to slash American wages in have, economic problems solved! So which should it be?

Answer: US construction can’t be sent overseas, see? Nor US agriculture, see?By sending the illegals away, Americans are guaranteed to get to compete for those jobs.
